  Function in Host
Endoplasmic reticulum cargo receptor that mediates the exportof lipoproteins by recruiting cargos into COPII vesicles to facilitatetheir secretion. Acts as a cargo receptor for lipoproteins bearing both APOB and APOA1, thereby regulating lipoprotein delivery and the maintenance of lipidhomeostasis. Synergizes with theGTPase SAR1B to mediate transport of circulating lipoproteins. Promotes the secretion of PCSK9. Also mediates the efficient secretion of erythropoietin (EPO). May also play a role in the maintenance of thearchitecture of the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediatecompartment and of the Golgi. [1-3]

Function of This Protein During Virus Infection
Virus NameSARS-COV-2 Protein Function Anti-viral [4]
Infected TissueLung Infection Time7-9 Days
Infected CellCalu-3 Cells (Human epithelial cell line) Cellosaurus IDCVCL_0609
Method DescriptionTo detect the role of host protein SURF4 in viral infection, SURF4 protein knockdown Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen.
ResultsIt is reported that knockout of SURF4 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group.
