Function in Host |
Component of the 26S proteasome, a multiprotein complexinvolved in the ATP-dependent degradation of ubiquitinated proteins. This complex plays a key role in the maintenance of protein homeostasisby removing misfolded or damaged proteins, which could impair cellularfunctions, and by removing proteins whose functions are no longerrequired. Therefore, the proteasome participates in numerous cellularprocesses, including cell cycle progression, apoptosis, or DNA damagerepair. PSMD4 acts as an ubiquitin receptor subunit through ubiquitin-interacting motifs and selects ubiquitin-conjugates for destruction. Displays a preferred selectivity for longer polyubiquitin chains.

Method Description | To detect the role of host protein PSMD4 in viral infection, PSMD4 protein knockout Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen. | ||||||||
Results | It is reported that knockout of PSMD4 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group. |
