Plays important roles in the innate immune response aseffector of glucocorticoid-mediated responses and regulator of theinflammatory process. Has anti-inflammatory activity. Plays a role in glucocorticoid-mediated down-regulation of the earlyphase of the inflammatory response. Contributes to theadaptive immune response by enhancing signaling cascades that aretriggered by T-cell activation, regulates differentiation andproliferation of activated T-cells. Promotes thedifferentiation of T-cells into Th1 cells and negatively regulatesdifferentiation into Th2 cells. Has no effect onunstimulated T cells. Negatively regulates hormoneexocytosis via activation of the formyl peptide receptors andreorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. Has highaffinity for Ca (2+) and can bind up to eight Ca (2+) ions. Displays Ca (2+) -dependent binding to phospholipidmembranes. Plays a role in theformation of phagocytic cups and phagosomes. Plays a role inphagocytosis by mediating the Ca (2+) -dependent interaction betweenphagosomes and the actin cytoskeleton. [1]
