Function in Host |
Cytoskeletal linker protein that connects to intermediatefilaments and controls their reorganization in response to stress. In response tomechanical stress like wound healing, is associated with the machineryfor cellular motility by slowing down keratinocyte migration andproliferation and accelerating keratin bundling in proliferatingkeratinocytes thus contributing to tissue architecture. However in wound healing in cornealepithelium also positively regulates cell differentiation andproliferation and negatively regulates migration thereby controllingcorneal epithelium morphogenesis and integrity. In response to cellularstress, plays a role in keratin filament reorganization, probably byprotecting keratin filaments against disruption. During liver andpancreas injuries, plays a protective role by chaperoning disease-induced intermediate filament reorganization.

Method Description | To detect the role of host protein EPPK1 in viral infection, EPPK1 protein knockout Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen. | ||||||||
Results | It is reported that knockout of EPPK1 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group. |
