Component of the transient SURFcomplex which recruits UPF1 to stalled ribosomes in the context ofnonsense-mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stopcodons. Required for SHFL-mediated translation termination whichinhibits programmed ribosomal frameshifting (-1PRF) of mRNA fromviruses and cellular genes. [1-4]
