  Function in Host
Required for ribosome biogenesis and telomere maintenance. Part of the H/ACA small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (H/ACA snoRNP) complex, which catalyzes pseudouridylation of rRNA. This involves theisomerization of uridine such that the ribose is subsequently attachedto C5, instead of the normal N1. Each rRNA can contain up to 100pseudouridine ('psi') residues, which may serve to stabilize theconformation of rRNAs. May also be required for correct processing orintranuclear trafficking of TERC, the RNA component of the telomerasereverse transcriptase (TERT) holoenzyme. [1-2]

Function of This Protein During Virus Infection
Virus NameSARS-COV-2 Protein Function Anti-viral [3]
Infected TissueLung Infection Time7-9 Days
Infected CellCalu-3 Cells (Human epithelial cell line) Cellosaurus IDCVCL_0609
Method DescriptionTo detect the role of host protein GAR1 in viral infection, GAR1 protein knockout Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen.
ResultsIt is reported that knockout of GAR1 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group.
