Actin-binding protein involved in actin cytoskeletonregulation and dynamics. Increases the number and size of actin stressfibers and inhibits membrane ruffling. Inhibits actin filamentdepolymerization. Bundles actin filaments, delays filament nucleationand reduces formation of branched filaments. Plays arole in cholesterol homeostasis. Influences plasma cholesterol levelsthrough regulation of intestinal cholesterol absorption. May act as ascaffold protein by regulating NPC1L1 transportation, an essentialprotein for cholesterol absorption, to the plasma membrane byrecruiting MYO5B to NPC1L1, and thus facilitates cholesterol uptake.
