Function in Host |
Catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the transport ofcalcium from the cytoplasm to the extracellular space therebymaintaining intracellular calcium homeostasis. Plays a role in bloodpressure regulation through regulation of intracellular calciumconcentration and nitric oxide production leading to regulation ofvascular smooth muscle cells vasoconstriction. Positively regulatesbone mineralization through absorption of calcium from the intestine. Plays dual roles in osteoclast differentiation and survival byregulating RANKL-induced calcium oscillations in preosteoclasts andmediating calcium extrusion in mature osteoclasts. Regulates insulin sensitivity through calcium/calmodulin signalingpathway by regulating AKT1 activation and NOS3 activation inendothelial cells. May play a role in synaptictransmission by modulating calcium and proton dynamics at the synapticvesicles.
