  Function in Host
Plays a role in RAN-dependent nucleocytoplasmic transport. Alleviates the TNPO1-dependent inhibition of RAN GTPase activity andmediates the dissociation of RAN from proteins involved in transportinto the nucleus. Induces a conformation change in thecomplex formed by XPO1 and RAN that triggers the release of the nuclearexport signal of cargo proteins. Promotes thedisassembly of the complex formed by RAN and importin beta. Promotesdissociation of RAN from a complex with KPNA2 and CSE1L. Required for normal mitotic spindle assembly and normalprogress through mitosis via its effect on RAN. Doesnot increase the RAN GTPase activity by itself, but increases GTPhydrolysis mediated by RANGAP1. Inhibits RCC1-dependent exchange of RAN-bound GDP by GTP. [1-4]

Function of This Protein During Virus Infection
Virus NameSARS-COV-2 Protein Function Anti-viral [5]
Infected TissueLung Infection Time7-9 Days
Infected CellCalu-3 Cells (Human epithelial cell line) Cellosaurus IDCVCL_0609
Method DescriptionTo detect the role of host protein RANBP1 in viral infection, RANBP1 protein Knockdown Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen.
ResultsIt is reported that knockout of RANBP1 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group.
