[Sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2]: Precursor ofthe transcription factor form (Processed sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2), which is embedded in the endoplasmic reticulummembrane. Low sterol concentrations promoteprocessing of this form, releasing the transcription factor form thattranslocates into the nucleus and activates transcription of genesinvolved in cholesterol biosynthesis.
