  Function in Host
Component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, which is required for several steps in the initiationof protein synthesis. The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosomeand facilitates the recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2GTPmethionyl-tRNAi and eIF-5 to form the 43S pre-initiation complex (43S PIC). TheeIF-3 complex stimulates mRNA recruitment to the 43S PIC and scanningof the mRNA for AUG recognition. The eIF-3 complex is also required fordisassembly and recycling of post-termination ribosomal complexes andsubsequently prevents premature joining of the 40S and 60S ribosomalsubunits prior to initiation. The eIF-3 complexspecifically targets and initiates translation of a subset of mRNAsinvolved in cell proliferation, including cell cycling, differentiationand apoptosis, and uses different modes of RNA stem-loop binding toexert either translational activation or repression. Function of This Protein During Virus Infection
Virus NameSARS-COV-2 Protein Function Anti-viral [4]
Infected TissueLung Infection Time7-9 Days
Infected CellCalu-3 Cells (Human epithelial cell line) Cellosaurus IDCVCL_0609
Method DescriptionTo detect the role of host protein EIF3L in viral infection, EIF3L protein knockout Calu-3 Cells were infected with SARS-COV-2 for 7 - 9 Days , and the effects on infection was detected through CRISPR-based genome-wide gene-knockout screen.
ResultsIt is reported that knockout of EIF3L increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group.
