The SMN complex catalyzes the assembly of small nuclearribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), the building blocks of the spliceosome, and thereby plays an important role in the splicing of cellular pre-mRNAs. Most spliceosomal snRNPs contain a common set of Smproteins SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF and SNRPG thatassemble in a heptameric protein ring on the Sm site of the smallnuclear RNA to form the core snRNP (Sm core). In the cytosol, the Smproteins SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPE, SNRPF and SNRPG are trapped in aninactive 6S pICln-Sm complex by the chaperone CLNS1A that controls theassembly of the core snRNP. To assemble core snRNPs, the SMN complex accepts the trapped 5Sm proteins from CLNS1A forming anintermediate. Binding of snRNA inside 5Sm ultimatelytriggers eviction of the SMN complex, thereby allowing binding ofSNRPD3 and SNRPB to complete assembly of the core snRNP. Within the SMNcomplex, GEMIN5 recognizes and delivers the small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) to the SMN complex. Binds to the 7-methylguanosine capof RNA molecules. Binds to the 3'-UTR of SMN1 mRNA andregulates its translation; does not affect mRNA stability. May play a role in the regulation of proteinsynthesis via its interaction with ribosomes. [1-3]

ResultsIt is reported that knockout of GEMIN5 increases SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels compared with control group.
